Who It Is For and Who It Is Not

The FDA cleared Lumipulse for adults aged 55 and older who are experiencing cognitive symptoms or have objective cognitive impairment. This includes people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or those with clinical suspicion of Alzheimer's disease but not yet diagnosed.

It is not approved for screening asymptomatic people or those with normal cognition—even if they are anxious about memory or family history. The test's primary real-world use is confirming amyloid pathology in candidates for disease-modifying therapies like lecanemab (Leqembi), anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies that can slow cognitive decline if given early in the disease course. How Accurate Is the Test

FDA guidance and clinical research emphasize that the test must be paired with cognitive testing, a neurologic examination, neuropsychological assessment, and brain imaging (MRI or PET). The test replaces the need for invasive cerebrospinal fluid testing via lumbar puncture but does not replace the full diagnostic evaluation.

When Results Are Unclear and Plasma Limitations

This is a known caveat in the field and does not invalidate the test, but it means an intermediate or discordant result is not automatically definitive.
