Privacy Policy

How HelpDementia.com collects, uses, shares, and retains information from visitors, newsletter subscribers, and contact form senders.

This Privacy Policy explains what information HelpDementia.com collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who visits this site.

Who we are

HelpDementia.com is an independent, informational website focused on dementia care and caregiver support. You can read more about our mission on the About page.

Information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

Information you give us directly

  • Newsletter signups. If you subscribe through our newsletter page, we collect the email address you enter. We use that email only to send you our newsletter and any related transactional emails (welcome message, unsubscribe confirmation).
  • Contact form submissions. If you write to us through the contact form, we collect the name, email, and message you submit. We use that information only to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, integrated through Google Site Kit, to understand how visitors find and use the site. Analytics records pseudonymous information such as page views, referral source, approximate location (city level), browser type, device type, and engagement events. We do not configure Google Analytics to receive personal information such as names, email addresses, or contact-form contents.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider (Hostinger) and our CDN (Cloudflare) keep standard server logs for security and performance, including IP addresses, request timestamps, and user-agent strings. These logs are retained per their respective policies.
  • Cookies. We and our service providers use cookies for analytics and site functionality. You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings; doing so will not break the site.

Information from third parties

If our advertising or affiliate partners (where applicable) share aggregate data with us, that data is reported only at a summary level (for example, click-through totals) and is not associated with any individual visitor.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Send our newsletter to people who subscribe.
  • Reply to people who contact us through the contact form.
  • Understand site usage in aggregate so we can improve our content and navigation.
  • Keep the site secure and reliable.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address with third parties for their own marketing.

How we share information

We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the site, and only to the extent required for them to provide their service:

  • Google (Analytics and Site Kit) — analytics.
  • Hostinger — hosting and server logs.
  • Cloudflare — content delivery, security, and bot protection.
  • Our newsletter provider — sending the newsletter to subscribers.

These providers have their own privacy policies and security practices. We may also disclose information if we are required to by law, by court order, or to defend our legal rights.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact form messages: kept for a reasonable period to maintain a conversation record, generally up to 24 months.
  • Analytics data: per Google Analytics 4 default retention (currently 14 months).
  • Server logs: per the host’s default retention.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email.
  • Access or delete. You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by writing to us through the contact form. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Cookies. You can clear or block cookies via your browser. You can also opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under local data-protection laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA). To exercise those rights, contact us as above.

Children

HelpDementia.com is written for adults caring for adults with dementia. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Health information notice

HelpDementia.com is not a healthcare provider, not a HIPAA-covered entity, and not a HIPAA business associate. Information you submit through this site is not HIPAA-protected. Please do not send protected health information through our contact form or newsletter.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices change or when service providers change. When we make a material change, we will update the “Last reviewed” date at the bottom of this page and add a brief note above the original text describing what changed.
