Tell me about emilia clarke illness
Emilia Clarke is a well-known actress, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the hit TV series Game of Thrones. However, behind her successful career, she has also faced a major challenge in her personal life – a life-threatening illness.
In 2011, at the young age of 24, Clarke suffered from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke caused by bleeding in the space surrounding the brain. She was in the middle of filming the first season of Game of Thrones when she suddenly collapsed in the gym.
Initially, she dismissed it as a severe migraine but soon realized the seriousness of her condition when she couldn’t remember her own name. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent an emergency surgery for three hours to repair a ruptured aneurysm in her brain.
The recovery period was far from easy for Clarke, who spent a month in the hospital and had to undergo multiple surgeries. She also had to deal with the side effects of her illness, which included memory loss and difficulty in speaking.
In an emotional essay for The New Yorker, Clarke revealed that she had to relearn basic tasks like walking, reading, and even talking. She also shared that she suffered from intense anxiety and panic attacks during this time.
But despite all the physical and emotional struggles, Clarke remained determined to continue her acting career. She returned to filming for Game of Thrones just a few weeks after her surgery, much to the surprise of her co-stars and crew members.
However, her battle with her illness was not over yet. In 2013, she underwent a second surgery as doctors discovered another aneurysm that needed to be treated. This time, she opted for a minimally invasive procedure and thankfully, it was successful.
Clarke continued to film for Game of Thrones while managing her health issues. She also used her platform as a celebrity to raise awareness about brain injuries and launched a charity called SameYou, which aims to provide rehabilitation and support for young adults recovering from brain injuries and strokes.
In 2019, Clarke bravely revealed that she had suffered a third aneurysm in 2018 while promoting the final season of Game of Thrones. She underwent a procedure to prevent it from rupturing and has since made a full recovery.
Despite facing multiple health challenges, Clarke remains positive and determined. She has become an advocate for breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and has inspired many with her resilience and strength.
In an interview with CBS This Morning, Clarke said, “I always say I am the luckiest woman in the world. I feel so incredibly lucky to be here, to be alive, and to have a platform where I can raise awareness.”
Clarke’s journey with her illness is a reminder that no matter how successful or strong a person may seem, they too can face challenges and struggles. Her bravery and determination to not let her illness define her is truly inspiring.
Today, Emilia Clarke continues to act and is using her platform to spread awareness about brain injuries and mental health. She remains a role model for many and her story serves as a reminder that no matter what life throws at us, we have the strength and resilience to overcome it.
