Additionally, regular caffeine use builds tolerance so that more is needed just to feel normal rather than gain performance benefits — creating dependency cycles where missing your usual dose causes withdrawal symptoms such as headaches and low motivation.

Caffeine also acts as a mild diuretic causing increased urination which may lead to dehydration if fluid intake isn’t adequate; dehydration further impairs muscle function and recovery capacity during workouts.

To avoid falling into this trap:

– Use caffeine strategically only on days when enhanced performance matters.
– Avoid relying on it daily just to get through workouts.
– Prioritize good hydration alongside caffeinated drinks.
– Pay close attention to true signs of fatigue beyond what coffee masks.
